I was born in Watford in 1978 and now live in Hove, East Sussex with my partner and two cats.  I teach creative writing at the Open University and have a Ph.d which was on friendship and rhetoric in Shakespeare.  The sea, local landscapes and historical events often spark my imagination.  My first collection was a book of love poems called The Frost Fairs (Salt, 2011) which shifts between previous centuries and the present.  It was named a Book of the Year by The Independent and The Poetry School.  The Guardian called it ‘sharp yet compassionate, formal yet nimble.’
